In June of 2009, while getting ready to come back to the United States after my year-long Fulbright research work in India on "Siddha and Systems Biology", I was called into the office of the Director General (DG) of India's Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He had to my surprise printed out my dossier. He asked me "Why are you going back to Boston? India needs people like you." He later went on to describe a new position created by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, calling for finding outstanding Scientists Technologist of Indian Origin (STIO). The position was at the highest grade of an Indian scientist, level H, also at an Additional Secretary Level, like a Deputy Secretary in the US.
I took on the post and then my adventures in India began. I will be posting the entire story in summary shortly. |
